ANANSI is a Pan-African group of artists distributed across the globe who collaborate on art, knowledge, and organizing. We are artists, activists, anarchists, inventors, economists, guerrilla theorists, creatives, and collaborators. We are both trans- and anti-disciplinary, stepping with ease between the many worlds we inhabit. Together, we are greater than the sum of our parts.

We steward a commons of:

  • Material resources – money, equipment
  • Infrastructure – Communal computing server, Funkwhale
  • People-power – time banking, commitment statements
  • Knowledge – documentation, creative assets

We are the stewards of an emergent ANANSI Philosophy of Black holistic distribution. This grows out of Pan-African interdependence and seeks to disrupt centralization in politics, technology, economics, community, and culture.

Projects

As a collective, our lifeblood is collaboration—within the collective, with other institutions, and between members of our global communities. Learn more about our Projects:

People

We’ve collaborated with dozens of artists and count them all as kin. Our current active members include:

Praxis

Our Praxis is how we move—emergent strategies grounded in our philosophy of distribution. We experiment, iterate, document, and share.

Protocol

We're building a resilient, heterarchical protocol to govern the Commons and ourselves. This participatory system allows anyone to contribute, propose, and shape our direction.
